High Valyrian
High Valyrian is a constructed language (conlang) created by linguist David J. Peterson for the television series “Game of Thrones,” based on the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin.
Initially, the language had only a few words and phrases mentioned in the books, but it was expanded significantly for the show to meet the needs of dialogue and cultural context.
High Valyrian is depicted as an ancient and formal language used primarily in a ceremonial or scholarly context within the world of the series.
It has its own complex grammar and vocabulary, featuring inflections for tense, number, and case.
High Valyrian holds a position similar to that of Latin in medieval Europe, serving as a lingua franca among educated and noble characters in the series.
