Beginner Language Learner
In the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), “beginner language learners” typically refers to learners who are at the A1 or A2 levels.
– A1 (Breakthrough): At this level, learners have basic language skills and can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of concrete needs.
They can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know, and things they have.
– A2 (Waystage): At the A2 level, learners can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance (e.g., basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography).
They can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
Beginner learners in the CEFR framework are just starting to build their foundational language skills and typically focus on basic vocabulary, simple sentence structures, and everyday communication situations.
