A1 Language Level

The “A1” level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) indicates the most basic proficiency in a language.

At an A1 language level, learners can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at meeting concrete needs.

They can introduce themselves and others, ask and answer questions about personal details, and interact in a simple way as long as the other person speaks slowly and clearly.

Someone who has an A1 level of language has taken only the first steps in a new language, laying the foundation for further learning and communication.

Other CEFR levels are A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.
