A2 Language Level

The “A2” language level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) represents a step up from A1, showing a slightly higher proficiency.

At this stage, learners can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g., basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography).

They can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics, such as “Where are the tomatoes?” or “Thank you, how much is that?” (and understanding the gist of the responses).

Think of it as progressing from basic phrases to being able to handle slightly more complex conversations and situations encountered in everyday life.

Other CEFR levels are A1, B1B2C1 and C2.
